Violence in the Workplace: Home Care & Hospice (FREE Webcast)

Violence in the Workplace continues to escalate for health care workers. This includes home care and hospice settings as well. Community care providers have seen an increase in violent experiences with guns in the home, drugs, racism, public transportation, sexual harassment and sexual assault. In addition, civil unrest and gun violence on the streets have increased dramatically since 2020.

OSHA’s General Duty Clause from the OSHA Act of 1970 requires that, in addition to compliance with hazard-specific standards, all employers provide a work environment “free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm.”

This session will expand upon, and highlight, the role agencies play in developing a work prevention plan for violence in the workplace as well as developing education for staff on self protection.

In addition to consulting in all areas of health care, Barbara has worked extensively with local, state, federal government agencies, and the private sector with regard to business recovery planning, protection of personnel assets, infection prevention, infrastructure protection, all hazards planning and the Incident Command System.  She currently serves as a subject matter expert for the Unites States Assistant Secretary of Preparedness, and Response program (ASPR TRACIE), and was recently appointed to the National Quality Forum’s committee on Healthcare System Readiness, a multi-stakeholder task force to improve health care systems’ response capabilities for large scale events.
