Q. My home care agency has concerns about SARS. What kind of protective equipment should my employees wear and when? A. Employees such as field staff should be knowledgeable in the signs and symptoms of SARS and should have standardized questions to ask during the initial assessment. These questions should be about travel and contacts. If the field person suspects that the patients may have SARS, the following should occur: The field person should immediately mask (N95) the patient, any immediate family members and themselves. In addition the field person should glove and gown. The local Department of Health should be notified for direction. Isolation and airborne precautions should be adhered to. (We have received many questions on this subject)
Q.
I heard your presentation about OASIS standardization in Wisconsin, at their
annual conference and was interested in inter-rater reliability testing. Do you
have any materials that could help our agency begin the process?
